This Christmas season will bring the usual decorations, friendly get-togethers, holiday spirit, and something a little less familiar.  How about a giant spaceship on a 120 year journey carrying over 5000 people in hibernation to stuff your stocking?  And just to make things interesting we’ll toss in two of those people being unexpectedly awoken 90 years too soon, because, let’s face it, watching people do nothing but sleep for 120 years would make for a long and boring movie.  That’s what Sony Pictures’ upcoming film Passengers is dropping down your chimney this December 21.

From the just-released trailer, the film looks gorgeous and it’s more than just a wayward romance in space.  There’s going to be plenty of dangerous situations and our duo of Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt will have to do more than make googly eyes at each other to make it to the credits alive.  They’ll have to fight to keep the ship intact and along the way discover the real reason they were dropped out of hibernation early.

Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are two passengers onboard a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As Jim and Aurora try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up.
